Spirometry
WHY?HOW DOES IT WORK?
Spirometry, is a common type of pulmonary function test used to evaluate respiratory health. It measures how well a person can move air in and out of their lungs and the capacity of their lungs.
Lung function is an important consideration for workers who are exposed to respiratory hazards, dusty environments or are required to wear respirators.
In an occupational setting, spirometry is used:
- At pre-employment
- To establish a baseline before assigning a worker to certain job tasks such as those that require use of a respirator, or that may expose the worker to respiratory hazards
- In health surveillance programs to track lung function over time.
Our testers are specifically trained to conduct spirometry. We are working to have practices registered as spirometry providers under the Qld Coal Mine Workers Health Scheme.
