Our Second Opinion service is crafted to provide employers with confidence when addressing complex medical situations in the workplace.
Why do you need it?
This service allows employers to obtain expert medical advice from experienced Occupational Physicians and doctors.
Whether the concern pertains to an illness, injury, or a previous medical report or determination, our Second Opinion service guarantees a comprehensive and impartial review, culminated in a detailed report. Advice is based upon the specific concern(s) of the client relating to the injury or illness, and supporting documentation provided.
When should you seek a Second Opinion?
- concerns about the prior medical assessment
- complex or prolonged cases where an employee is absent from work or on restricted duties
- discrepancies between the employee’s reported symptoms and the original medical report or diagnosis
- to ensure compliance with workplace safety regulations.
How does it work?
This service is generally be done as a desk top review but can include a consultation with your employee depending on the situation.

The team will:
- review documentation provided
- answer any specific questions proposed
- provide an opinion via report using their clinical expertise at the interface of health and work.
Case Example
- a truck operator had been deemed fit to return to full duties with minimal investigation post an episode of altered consciousness when they stepped off a bus on site and rolled their ankle
- due to the worker’s safety critical role, the employer sought a second opinion to ensure the original determination was correct and that no underlying health issues
- a review of the information provided, and subsequent teleconsultation was completed by one of our physicians, due to a past history of acquired brain injury (ABI), a head MRI was recommended. This was arranged by the Resile Team.
- no concerning pathology identified, and the worker was deemed fit to trial a return to work with recommendations to report any symptoms should they occur and a review in two weeks’ time.
FAQs
This service provides a second opinion on injury management, medical assessments etc. We cannot provide a second opinion on a medicolegal matter that should be referred to our medicolegal services area.
Non work-related conditions will be discussed with the employee but will not be disclosed in the report unless there is an impact on the worker being able to undertake the essential inherent requirements of the role without foreseeable and significant risk to health and safety.
No, the doctor assigned to this case or the support team will contact the employer to seek consent to proceed.
