Employment Health Assessments

Pre-Deployment Altitude Assessment

Why do you need it?

Does your organisation send employees to work or visit sites at high altitude?

Traveling to high altitudes can pose several health risks due to the lower oxygen levels and changes in atmospheric pressure and for some people, disorders associated with high altitude can be life threatening.

Acute altitude illness can occur when people are at or above 2000 metres above sea level. In some cases it can occur at an intermediate altitude  – 1500 – 2000 metres above sea level.

Severe cases involve fluid build-up in the lungs, brain or both which can be fatal.

We provide Altitude Assessments for organisations who have operations in high altitude regions.

How does it work

Contact us about arranging an appropriate assessment for your needs.

Our team will assess the risk of your individual applicant/employee for altitude health issues using their medical history and examination results such as blood pressure, BMI, pathology results.

FAQs

Symptoms of altitude sickness can become evident within 6 – 24 hours after reaching higher elevation. The symptoms could be mild to severe depending on the individual and the altitude.

Hopefully your organisation has a plan for managing this risk and a person in the event that they develop symptoms. We can help with the development of these plans where required.

If this is an immediate need then:

  • immediately transfer them to a lower altitude
  • advise the person to drink plenty of fluids and avoid alcohol and caffeine
  • call our 24/7 treatment line for immediate advice on managing symptoms
  • we will advise and can assist in arranging medical examination and management at the lower altitude.
