Occupational Hygiene

Why do you need it?

Occupational Hygienists use a scientific approach to measure the extent workers are exposed to hazards and then advise on practical, sustainable control solutions.

The end goal of Occupational hygiene is to prevent ill health or injury caused by the working environment.

How does it work?

Best Practice

Occupational Hygienists use a scientific approach to measure the extent workers are exposed to hazards. If your organisation has had no assessment, then we recommend the following process:

  • baseline qualitative health risk assessment
  • an initial site visit and hazard characterisation – this a “walk-through” survey which enables us to identify the range of hazards present.
  • occupational exposure monitoring program design
  • development of sampling strategy and exposure profiling (SEG’s) – monitoring must be carefully designed to ensure statistically significant outcomes.
  • occupational exposure assessment – monitoring
  • monitoring enables us to determine exposure risks and inform risk control programs.
